Family Recipes: Cinco de Mayo Guacamole

Recipe by Gabe Thibodeau

I’ve already shared my family’s necessity for homemade salsa. What can I say, it’s in our blood. My grandfather (known as “Tata” among all the grandkids) was born in Mexico and shared his love of the country with my mom and aunts when they were kids.

To this day, food is one of the main ways that we celebrate our Mexican culture with our friends. There’s something special about authentic, well-made food. It inspires you to share and gather together.

Today I’m excited to present another recipe from the family vault. It’s another Mexican staple and, again, it’s really easy to make. Mexican food is all about using fresh, natural ingredients to create something wonderful. Read below to make my family’s fool-proof guacamole.

Enjoy!

Guacamole

Guacamole

Ingredients

  • 5 Large Avocados
  • 1 Large Tomato
  • Juice from 2 Large Limes
  • 1/2 Large White Onion
  • 1 Cup Fresh Cilantro
  • Garlic Salt, to Taste

Instructions

  1. Cut avocados in half, discard seeds, and scoop contents into a bowl. Mash avocados to desired consistency (a fork will do the trick).
  2. Dice tomato and onion, and finely chop cilantro.
  3. Add lime juice, tomatato, onion, and cilantro to the bowl.
  4. Add garlic salt, to taste.
  5. Serve with tortilla chips and enjoy!

Notes

*Start with the juice of one lime, taste, then add more as needed.

**If you like your guacamole with some heat, try adding some serrano chiles (roasted and diced)!
